New Baby Blanket with Animals & Basketweave

I'm still having fun making baby things.  One of my daughter's friends is expecting a baby boy any day now.

I've been a long time admirer of Down Cloverlaine's designs.  I love all of her cute little animal designs and bibs, and I've been wanting to knit a baby blanket using her designs, which are free by the way.  This is very generous of her.

I also have a thing for the Basketweave pattern.  It was one of my Mom's favorites.

I worked this blanket in individual squares, then sewed them together.  I choose the animal patterns that had a CO of 37 sts and 58 rows.  The Basketweave patt. that I used was a CO of 38 sts. and 58 rows.  The blanket was made of 6 animals and 6 basketweave squares.

I used size 7 needles and all sorts of odds and ends of off-white yarn from my stash.  This project was a great stash-buster!

I really enjoyed working on this blanket and the only variation that I had made to knitting the squares is I used a long-tail CO, and I slipped the 1st stitch at the beginning of each row and I purled the last stitch of each row.  When it came time to assemble the squares together it made sewing them together so easy.  Then for a finishing touch, I crocheted all along the edge.  I can't wait to give it to the new mom!

Hey, I recognize those patterns! LOL! What a wonderful job! The blanket is so pretty and I'm flattered that you used my designs. (Shhh, don't tell anyone but the elephant is still my most favorite design!) I don't think I'm supposed to have favorites! ;o)
