Let the Knitting Begin...

I called Herrschners & they investigated the discrepancy & they called me back. Yes, the label says "Sport Yarn", but it's in the DK classification.

So, I did a swatch..........gasp, I really did, & my gauge is spot on. Yay! So, hopefully it'll be OK.

I CO last night & completed the first 15 rows.

New Yarn Is Here!

My new yarn arrived today! The pattern calls for DK weight. Herrschners described this as a DK weight, but the label clearly says sport weight. I hope that it'll be OK.

Now, I have to do a swatch, before I CO for my new project. My least favorite part of knitting.

Still Waiting, But Ready

My new yarn order for my sweater project has been shipped, but it hasn't arrived yet.

But....I'm ready.

Hubby and I had some errands to run, some serious shopping, then some fun shopping. I had 2 coupons for Michael's. One for 50% off and another for 40% off.

Well, my original Boye Needle set is almost 30 years old and was getting pretty worn. Also, the larger sizes (8-15) required an adapter so they could fasten onto the cables. The new set doesn't. Yay! Some knitters don't like this set of needles, because they complain that the needles come apart from the cables. As long as I use the "key" to tighten things up, I really haven't had this happen that often. Sadly, my Denise Set has been coming apart more & more & not staying locked into place.

So, I used my 50% off coupon and the rest of the funds from my Michael's gift card. I got this set for just under $25.

Hubby went through the line with the 40% off coupon and he got the new skein of Fisherman's white for $1.79

When the yarn gets here..........I'll be ready!

Shish Kabobs

For a lack of knitting content, I will share with you Beef Shish Kabobs on the grill. My youngest daughter saw them on a cooking show and she's been pestering me to make them. I've never even thought about making them, but I thought why not?

So, we made the trip to the grocery store and we stopped at the butcher's counter. Ready-made beef or chicken kabobs.....$3.99 a piece! That's right....$4 a stick.

Hmm....so, I asked the young lady behind the counter what kind of meat would I need to make my own shish kabobs? The nice young lady directed me to the top sirloin. Two cuts of beef, (approx. 2 1/2 lbs) for $8.99, plus all the other ingredients.....I made 10 kabobs for about $15 total. I already had the fixings for the marinade.

Oh my goodness..........they were delicious! My family says that this recipe is a keeper.

I received a confirmation e-mail today that my yarn for my sweater project has been shipped. It should be here soon.

He Made Third Place!

Back in April, my DS participated in the regional competition in Hershey, PA, for computer networking and he did so well that he had the opportunity to go to Nashville, TN to participate in the Future Business Leaders of America National (FBLA) competition for computer networking. He made Third Place! The whole family is so proud of him!

As he was getting ready to leave for Tennessee, he said, "Hey, Mom, we're going to the Grand Ole Opry and we're going to Elvis Presley's mansion." To which I laughed and said, "It's called Graceland, honey." He responded with a "whatever. "
When I got up this morning, these were waiting on the table for me! I have the sweetest son in the world!

Elvis coffee mug (view 2)

I'm torn about whether I should actually use the coffee mug or not, or should I keep in my china-closet? I hate it when I give someone a gift and it's never used. I just don't want the mug to get broken.

Here's a glance of the 4 different pictures on the note cards.

Now, these, I'll probably use on certain occasions & reserve 1 of each to keep.

Now, this photo is supposed to have an interesting story about, at least it is to me. I had watched a program recently where Elvis' ex, Priscilla, related that back in the 60's that Elvis had watched a James Bond movie where James Bond had a car phone, this was back in the day before cell phones. Anyway, he was so impressed with the idea of a car phone that he had to have one, and so he did. It wasn't exactly portable, the phone part was as big as a large suitcase, but he supposedly took great delight in having a phone in his car.

On the knitting front: I'm waiting for my order of yarn to come in for a new sweater project. In the meanwhile, I borrowed How to Knit a Sweater From the Neck Down DVD by Nenah Galati from my local library.

This DVD is a delight to watch. Galati is so down-to-earth and her pleasure in knitting shines through as well as her sense of humor. This is excellent resource for a beginner knitter. There wasn't anything on the DVD that I didn't already know about. I borrowed this DVD, because I was hoping to figure about how to design any pattern into a from the neck down cardigan, however, in the DVD, Galati shows how to knit a pullover sweater from the neck down and not a cardigan.

Hopefully my new yarn will be here soon, so that I can show you my new project.
